It came at midnight,
Softly at first,
Calming the city,
Once so full of life,
A thin layer of whiteness,
Constantly replacing itself,
A never ending stream,
Of calm and white.
The world woke to see a new city,
Usually so hard and black,
Now soft and white,
Like nothing they had seen before
Everywhere was carpeted
With a blanket of crystals
Shining with a light so bright
It reflected off every surface.
The birds awoke,
Their calls loud in the new found silence
Their hunts for food
Fruitless in the knee deep snow
Children rushed and raced
Around the winter wonderland
The soft whiteness
Cushioning their falls.
As the world fell asleep
Dreaming of the cold and happiness
The night froze
The city gripped in its chilling grasp
It froze the ground
And with the frost
Came the end of the snow.
