Its been thought that you the reader may wish to understand more about whats going off with ElementalWriting in general; so a blog is in order. EW will be aiming to keep it relevant to the theme of the site ie. books, some will be what EW is doing, reading, plans for the site, some may be news articles to share.
This following the relaunch of the site, EW has been mainly trying to get through the pile of books that have mounted up to be read. These will shortly be finding their way onto www.bookcrossing.com as there is only so much shelf space to be found.
Predator : Patricia Cornwell
I have never read any Cornwell before, but was given this by a colleague who knew I like Kathy Reichs, author of the Temperance Brennan novels that inspired the TV Series ‘Bones’, so thought it was worth a try.
However Cornwell felt like she was trying to write a new Bones rather than novels, too many characters and too much backstory that as a new reader I was unfamilar with, it took a while to work out who the key players were and who was new for this book.
The writing style I found to be simplistic and not fully formed, it at times seemed to need another draft to remove all the repeated use of words and phrases.
If You Could See Me Now : Cecelia Ahern
Again, I’ve not read any other Cecelia Ahern, but having seen PS. I love you, I think I was expecting something different to what I found. What I did find was a beautiful fairytale for grown ups. I struggled to get past the first couple of pages, but am glad that I stuck it out. Though I think the last 3 chapters were a bit excessive and not necessary to the story. I’m not sure how much else to say without spoiling the wonder of the topic.
And you don’t really want to know about the ITIL course book I’ve been reading!
